For tourists from developed countries, India is generally regarded as more"challenging." I think this is a good part of the reason.

虽然两个国家都为游客提供丰富的文化和历史体验，并且更高比例的印度人说着一口流利英语，中国通常有更好的旅游设施这点真的无法否认：更好的机场、更多航班、更方便的铁路、非常先进的高速铁路网、更多经济的4~5星级酒店、更好的卫生、更少贫民窟和乞丐，这是游客通常不喜欢看到的。
对于从发达国家来的游客来说，印度通常被认为更具“挑战”，我觉得这是一个很好的理由。

1. Because we litter casually and do not think twice about public spacehygiene 2. Our men both educated and uneducated stare at women lecherously. Thispercentage is quite large. 3. Some men out of those mentioned in point 2 make anattempt of sexual assault if given a chance. Gross misconception about womenfrom outside india. This percentage is quite small given that there are 300million men in the age group 20-50 and there are 4 lakh female tourists eachyear...and around a dozen cases of rape get reported each year.

4. Try to make the most out of a helpless person who has no clue about localrates like taxi, hotel etc. 5. Behave racially. A black tourist from USA mightget differential treatment than a white one from the same country. 6. Show nointerest in their culture and keep on repeating "Our culture is the best". Noneof the points from 1-5 above proves this quote. 7. Apathetic governmentpolicies.

It'sfair to say that both China and India are popular with foreign tourists.However, the numbers speak for themselves, China definitely sees far more totaltourists. I can surmise several reasons for this.

Safety As others have mentioned, the situation in India particularly forfemale travelers is pretty bad. Travelers need to be constantly vigilant toguard themselves from thieves, pickpockets, scams, and, for female travelers,sexual harassment and rape. Apart from pickpocketing and the occasional scamartist at tourist traps, there is very little for travelers to worry about inChina. Violent crime and rape are almost unheard of. You can walk down dark citystreets at night in China and have nothing to worry about. Location China notonly has better transportation connections within its borders, it also enjoysmuch better international connectivity than India. The number of internationalflights from Chinese cities to North America and Europe is far greater than inIndia. The number of Chinese cities with international flights is higher, too.China is located nearby major markets for international tourists—Japan, SouthKorea, Thailand, and Vietnam. India's neighbors however are mostly poor and notmajor markets for international tourists.
